Press Release
The International Labour Organization Employs
NewsNow to Deliver Internet Press Cuttings
20th September 2004
NewsNow Publishing Limited has struck a deal with the International
Labour Organisation, an agency of the United Nations, to deliver
up-to-the-minute news to its web site, and to staff across its entire
body of 1300 people. Breaking articles on diverse issues including
labour relations, employee rights, poverty and working conditions, as
well as news about the ILO itself, are delivered to the Library
section of the ILO's web site as they arrive. Articles are gathered
from NewsNow's ever-growing list of over 19,000
web-based sources, and filtered according to the ILO's specifications
using NewsNow's custom-designed newsfeed construction software.
NewsNow's editorial team worked with the ILO to refine the content of
their newsfeed until it was exactly what they needed. The IT team
worked with them to provide a customised display of the news,
including a specially-designed facility which allows users to 'drill
down' to articles on specific topic areas, such as AIDS or poverty.
The ILO expressed its enthusiasm for the facility: "We're extremely
pleased with the service with which NewsNow is providing us. We can now
track what's happening in global labour issues in a way that was
difficult if not impossible before. The large list of sources, in
several European languages, mean we get great very recent coverage
from the local perspective.
"Compared to other news providers, NewsNow were prepared to be very
flexible in terms of how the news was delivered, and in providing the
drill-down facility, which has proved really useful, and should become
very popular. The consistent level of customer service and the quality
of support NewsNow provided in developing this service was a large
factor in NewsNow's selection.
"The finished product is really easy to use: a primary goal was to
encourage use by minimizing the need for training and making use as
effortless as possible. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending NewsNow to
anyone looking for web-based news."
